The 2004 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 96, Number 2 Diane ThomeRecent performances of the acoustic and electronic music of Diane Thome include a 23-year retrospective concert held in Meany Hall, December 2, 2002, followed a week later by the premiere of Aquarius for mixed a cappella choir, commissioned by The Esoterics. Earlier in the season, The Palaces of Memory for chamber orchestra and tape, was performed by the Camellia Symphony Orchestra in Sacramento, CA; Through Amber, for clarinet and computer-realized sound, was performed by Matthew Nelson at Soundbridge in Benaroya Hall, Seattle; Fragrance of Orchids, commissioned by Trimpin for his Klavier Nonette Installation, was heard at the New Media Gallery of Jack Straw Productions in Seattle; Ringing, Stillness, Pearl Light for piano and tape was performed by Suzanne Garcia at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette; Like a Seated Swan, for viola and computer-realized sound, was performed on the New Music North Festival held in Thunder Bay, Ontario on June 5, 6, 8; and Estuaries of Enchantment, for oboe and computer-realized sound, was presented during the International Computer Conference held in Singapore in September 2003. PerformancesFragrance of Orchids, for Klavier Nonette Installation by Trimpin, was heard during January - April 2003, at the New Media Gallery, Jack Straw Productions, Seattle, WA. Like a Seated Swan, for viola and computer-realized sound, was presented by violist Catherine Jillings, June 5, 6, and 8, during the New Music North Festival 2003, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Estuaries of Enchantment for oboe and computer-realized sound, was performed by oboist James Brody, September 9, College of Music, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO; it was also heard on a September 30 concert in Singapore, ICMC 2003. Diane Thome's most recent monographic CD, BrightAir/Brilliant Fire, was described in the winter 2002 issue of Computer Music Journal as "a must-have for every computer music collector it's okay to write beautiful computer music.
