The 2004 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 96, Number 2 Harold SchiffmanHarold Schiffman is Professor Emeritus of Composition, Florida State University School of Music. He continues to reside in Tallahassee, FL, (winter and spring) and Robbinsville, NC, (summer and fall). He presently serves as Chairman of the School of Music Advisory Board of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. The University of Southern Mississippi Sax-Chamber Orchestra, Lawrence Gwozdz, director, gave five performances of Harold Schiffman's Concertino for Saxophones (1982) on its tour in the spring of 2003. North/South Consonance sponsored, as a part of its regular series, a concert of Schiffman's music in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York, NY, March 10, 2003, in celebration of his seventy-fifth birthday. PremieresTwo works were premiered in a March 10, 2003, concert given at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, New York, NY: Two Country Dances for Lady Jane (2001) by pianist Jane Perry-Camp; and Anaïti's Seduction Aria and Farewell (2002), soprano Gayle Seaton, accompanied by Perry-Camp. PerformancesHarpist Erzsébet Gaál presented Notturno (1980), December 16, 2002, Paris, France. Chamber Concerto No. 2: In Memoriam Edward Kilenyi 2000, was performed January 30, 2003, at the Florida State University Festival of New Music by pianist Perry-Camp, the FSU Graduate Wind Quintet, and the Eppes String Quartet, all under the direction of Alexander Jiménez, Tallahassee, FL; the same work was performed March 10 with Perry-Camp and the North/South Chamber Orchestra, directed by Max Lifchitz, Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, New York, NY. Other pieces heard on the March 10 recital in Weill Recital Hall include: Four Songs from Peacock Pie (1983). Gayle Seaton, soprano, Lisa Hansen, flutist, Perry-Camp, pianist; and Concertino for Oboe and Chamber Orchestra (1977), William Meredith, oboist, the North/South Chamber Orchestra, Max Lifchitz, conductor.
