Jackson Hill

Music by Jackson Hill received over a hundred performances in 2003. He has worked closely with the vocal ensemble Chanticleer, which toured widely in 2003 a new work commissioned in 2002. Other recent commissions include Lichfield Cathedral in England and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet. The Chanticleer recording of Voices of Autumn has received airtime on numerous NPR stations in the US, and on the BBC and Classic FM in the UK. During 2003-04, Jackson Hill is on sabbatical leave from Bucknell University, dividing his time between the U.S. and London, where he is working on his fourth symphony and a commission for The King's Singers for premiere in Japan in 2004. Premieres

In Winter's Keeping received its U.S. premiere in a Chanticleer concert in San Francisco, CA, March 1, 2003. Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (The Saint Chad Service) was introduced by the choir of Lichfield Cathedral under the direction of Philip Scriven, March 7, in Lichfield, England. Chanticleer presented the U.K. premiere of In Winter's Keeping in a concert at Barbican Concert Hall, London, England, May 1. On May 4, Long Hidden Deep . . . for mezzo-soprano and string quartet received its U. K. premiere in a concert in Cambridge, England, with Martha Gibbs Hill and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet.

Performances

On March 16, 2003, Hikyoku was presented in recital by flutist Diane Gold Toulson, Natalie Rooke Recital Hall, Lewisburg, PA. Several works received performances in England, including Voices of Autumn, broadcast nationally over BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, April 25-27; Love is Life, Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, under the direction of Timothy Brown, May 4; and Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, Choir of Lichfield Cathedral directed by Philip Scriven, Lichfield, June 7. Tango-no-Tango was performed by Haydee Schvartz, piano, Tonic Performance Space, New York, NY, July 8. During a performance at the Tanglewood Music Festival Chanticleer performed Voices of Autumn and In Winter's Keeping, Seiji Ozawa Hall, Lenox, MA, July 22.
