Michael Kurek

The Journal of the American Viola Society (Spring 2003) included a feature article about Michael Kurek's Sonata for Viola and Piano, including a reprint of the score of the entire first movement. During 2003, Kurek served as one of three national judges for the MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year competition, as a judge in the Entergy Young Texas Artists Music Competition, as a national judge for the Golden Key Honor Society music scholarships, and on a national panel of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in Los Angeles, CA.

Performances:

Sonata for Viola and Harp was performed in June 2003, at Trinity College, London, by the Greenhalgh/Adie Duo. Matisse Impressions was presented by the Blair Woodwind Quintet, with pianist Melissa Rose, at the Tennessee Music Teachers Association Annual Conference, June 2003. The Grand Calliope was performed by select high school students from around the state of Georgia at the University of Georgia's "JanFest" in January 2003, and by the Middle Tennessee Honors Band in March 2003.
