The 2004 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 96, Number 2 Robert Washburn **SAI Friend of the Arts Robert Washburn continues as Dean Emeritus and Senior Fellow in Music at the Crane School of Music, SUNY at Potsdam, where he is being honored in various ways for his 50th year of teaching in this institution. There will be concerts of his works, alumni citations and other events to recognize the length of his service. He and his wife, Beverly (an SAI advisor) recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and the composer turned 75, so it's quite a festive year. Washburn has completed several commissions, including the ceremonial march Climb to Glory, for the 10th Mountain Division Band at nearby Fort Drum, NY, honoring the unit's heroism in Afghanistan. He continues serving as a member of the New York State School Music Association Composition Selection Committee for student works to be performed at the annual conference in Rochester, NY. In 2003 he received his 41st annual ASCAP Award. His Olympics Fanfare is one of eight fanfares selected from 130 entries to be performed before concerts of the Dallas Wind Symphony.
