The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 David UberDavid Uber has received the prestigious ASCAP Award for the 45th consecutive year in honor of performances of his compositions throughout the world. He has been listed in Strathmore’s “Who’s Who 2004-2005 Biography.” Reviews of his new publications have appeared in the ITG Journal, The Instrumentalist, and the ITEA Journal. His arrangement of Amazing Grace for low brass instruments has appeared on the best-seller list of Tuba-Euphonium Press. The T.A.P. Music Sales 2004 catalog has 76 listings of his publications and recordings for brass, woodwinds, and piano-percussion. The Legend of Danby Mountain, for solo trombone and piano was commissioned by Nobuhiro Nobuchi and subsequently recorded on his new CD in Osaka, Japan. Mr. Noguchi has issued several videos and CDs of exclusive Uber compositions. The composer was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music Degree from Carthage College, Kenosha, WI, and a distinguished Alumni Award from that same institution. The new David Uber catalog lists 477 original compositions and arrangements for the brass, woodwind, percussion instruments, piano, and symphonic band. PremieresConcert Fanfare for brass choir, premiered summer 2004 in a recorded performance by The Real Brass Osaka, Osaka, Japan. Visions for brass quartet received its first hearing from the U.S. Navy Brass Quartet, directed by Joe Dollard. Professor Jeffrey Powers presented Thou Holiest of Rivers for solo horn and piano, at Baylor University, Waco, TX, fall 2004. PerformancesFirst Rhapsody for solo clarinet and piano was presented by Professor Roger McKinney in March 2004, at the College of New Jersey. Romance for Solo Tuba and Piano, was heard at Newbury (SC) College on April 13, performed by Bill Long; A Vermont Gathering for low brass quartet was also heard in the spring at Bowling Green (OH) State University, directed by Jason Luthy. The Bemidji State University Trombone Choir performed Concertante Antiphonale for double trombone choir on May 3, under the direction of Joel Pugh, while The Four Troubadours for two euphoniums and two tubas received a performance May 9, at the University of Wisconsin. EU-TU(BA) was performed at Christ Church Cathedral under the direction of Dr. Jerry Young. Performances of Double Portraits for trombone and tuba, were presented by Christopher Hayes at Ohio University, Eastern Michigan University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Michigan.
