The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 Julie MandelJulie Mandel announces the following new works: The Pious Cat, a ten-minute concert piece based on a story by I. L. Peretz for soprano, clarinet, and piano; and I Wish, I Wish, I Wish, a 25-minute, one-act opera based on a story by Eugene Mandel, for four voices (SSTB) and piano (can also be done as a concert version piece). PremieresThe Wedding Trio premiered April 22, 2004, at Queens College NY, with violinist Jonathan Weber, cellist George Dewar, and pianist Katie Franklin. Flutist Jill Sokol and pianist Franklin presented Confections (Sprinkles, A La Mode, Whipped Cream) on June 6, at the Huntington (NY) Library. Pianist Claudia Kanfo will premiere a suite of piano pieces entitled And the Livin’ is Easy on March 17, 2005, Greenwich House, New York, NY. PerformanceThe wind quartet Quiet Winter Morning was presented by the Renaissance Woodwind Quartet June 16, 2003, at Bayside (NY) Library. Moods was performed by violinist Jonathan Weber, violist Earl Manein, and cellist George Dewar, December 16 at Brandeis House, New York, NY.
