The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 Karel Husa***PerformancesKarel Husa’s Concerto for Percussion and Wind Ensemble was presented by the Czech State Orchestra and soloists, under the direction of M. Machek, February 11-12, 2004, at the Janácek Opera House, Brno, The Czech Republic. Concerto for Brass Quintet and String Orchestra was performed March 4 by the Orchestra de Cordoba and the Spanish Brass, conducted by Gloria Isabel Ramos Triano; this same work was presented earlier by the Orchestra de Granada and the Spanish Brass, under the direction of Josep Pons. The Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Tatsuyda Shomono, performed Music For Prague 1968 on May 20. Four Little Pieces for Strings was heard March 27 at the International Festival of Strings, conducted by Z. Kainarová, Jesenik, The Czech Republic. Flutist Leone Buyse and pianist Diane Birr performed Sonatina for Flute and Piano July 4, for the Flute Symposium, Ithaca (NY) College; Buyse also performed the Sonatina in numerous other cities this past season.
