Richard Hillert

A Festschrift (a term borrowed from German to describe a book honoring a respected academic – a celebration publication) for Richard Hillert, titled This is the Feast, which includes a complete catalog of the composer’s works, was published in 2004 by MorningStar Publications, St. Louis, MO.

Premieres

Fanfare for Chamber Orchestra was first heard in a Concordia University concert, directed by Paul Nicholson, River Forest, IL. Alleluia for the Day of Pentecost (SATB, organ, brass quartet, timpani) was premiered at Grace Lutheran Church, River Forest, IL. Other works premiered at Concordia University in 2004 include Veni Creator Spiritus for brass ensemble and Concertato: As Lately We Watched, for SATB, assembly, strings and organ. The Concordia Seminary Choir presented The Magnificat, for TTBB choir and organ, in St. Louis, MO.

Performances

The following works were included in a Festival of the Music of Richard Hillert, October 19-20, 2003, in honor of the composer’s 80th birthday, River Forest, IL: Suite for String Orchestra, Sonata for Baroque Flute and Harpsichord, Sonata for Piano, The Alleluiatic Sequence (choirs and orchestra), Prelude and Toccata for organ, Ricercata for organ, and numerous other choral and instrumental works and songs.
