The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 Thom Ritter GeorgeThom Ritter George has announced that he will conduct the premiere of Orpheus, for vocal soloists, chorus, and orchestra, on April 20, 2005. “This large score was commissioned for the opening of the Idaho State University Performing Arts Center. I have been working on Orpheus since the year 2000 and am looking forward to bringing the composition to a successful conclusion.” PerformancesSecond Suite in C, CN 318, was presented April 25, 2004, by the Ball State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Joseph Scagnoli, Muncie, IN. Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra, CN 176, was performed April 29 by soloist Csaba Wagner and an orchestra led by Laszlo Bartha, Budapest, Hungary; the same work was also heard in a performance featuring bass trombonist Matthew Hoorman on May 4 at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. Cimarosa Suite, CN 332, was heard in recital June 15 at the Texas Women’s University, Denton, TX. The Idaho Falls (ID) Symphony, under the direction of George Adams, performed Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, CN 351, with violinist Gilmore, on November 6, Civic Auditorium.
