The 2006 American Composers Update

Elizabeth Grieger Wiegand*

Elizabeth Grieger Wiegand has received the gold eagle pin from President George Bush and the Council on Service and Civic Participation. Along with the pin, she received a letter from George Bush and a letter from the Council signed by John Glen, Darrell Green, and Robert Dole. The packet also included an achievement award on White House stationery commending her on the over 4,000 hours she has given as a volunteer at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, as chapel organist, and Sterling House in Michigan City, as pianist and organist. Wiegand also received an invitation from Marquis’ Who’s Who in America for her biography to be published in the 60th Diamond Edition.

Performances

The organ solo Dear Mary was performed by the composer on August 15, 2005, at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital. On September 13, the piano solo Snow Butterflies and The Answer is in Jesus for voice and piano were presented by the composer at a meeting of the Michigan City (IN) Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae.
