The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Jack Beeson Jack Beeson writes, “In honor of the Centennial of the Juilliard School of Music, the commissioned work Ophelia Sings for mezzo-soprano and chamber ensemble was performed at the Juilliard School by soloist Sasha Cooke, with Joel Sachs conducting, on September 24, 2005. Sections of my operas The Sweet Bye and Bye and Lizzie Borden (librettos by Kenward Elmslie) were performed (one section throughout the show) 41 times between February 7 and March 20, 2005, in a theater piece called Lingoland at the York Theatre in New York City. I am at work on a book, Writings on Music, Opera, and Myself, which will include the reprinting of articles on music and opera, letters to and from me, and autobiographical matters.” Further Information
