The 2006 American Composers Update

as published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2

Nancy Galbraith****

Nancy Galbraith has emerged as one of the present era’s most accomplished composers of contemporary classical music. “Galbraith’s work possesses genuine melody, with a sweeping American character—at time, almost cinematic in their arc; her harmonies are transparent and attractive . . . ,” says CollegiumUSA. Her works are regularly performed and broadcast worldwide. With major contributions to the repertoires of symphony orchestras, concert choirs, wind ensembles, chamber ensembles, and soloists, she plays a leading role in defining “the sound of classical music” in today’s concert halls. Her music has been directed by some of the world’s leading conductors, including Gennady Rozhdetsvensky, Mariss Jansons, Keith Lockhart, Sidney Harth, Samuel Jones, and Robert Page. Her compositions are featured on numerous recordings, including releases on the Élan, Klavier, Albany, and Ocean record labels. Galbraith resides in Pittsburgh, PA, where she is Professor of Composition and Theory at Carnegie Mellon University and Music Director and Organist at Christ Lutheran Church. Her music is published in the U.S. by Subito Music Publishing (ASCAP), and distributed internationally by Boosey & Hawkes. You are invited to visit the composer’s website at: www.nancygalbraith.com.
