Annual American Composers Update

David Alpher

David Alpher resides in Gloucester, MA. His work The Walrus and the Carpenter received an honorable mention in the National Flute Association's 1997 Newly Published Music Competition.

Premieres

On Mar. 22, 1997, Nmon Ford-Livene, baritone, and Alpher, piano, presented Three Songs of Transcendence at Villa Montalvo, in Saratoga, CA. Janet Packer, violin, and Jozef de Beenhouwer, piano, premiered Memories of Der Rosenkavalier, Apr. 8, 1997, at the Tsai Performance Center, Boston.

Performances

Heard at La Mirada Museum, Monterey, CA on Mar. 23, 1997 were the solo piano version of Las Meninas: Variations, with Alpher; and Land of the Farther Suns, with narrator Elisabeth Marshall and Alpher at the piano. Diane Roscetti and guests played Atlantic Legend (version for harpsichord, violin, and cello) at the University of Maine, in Orono, Jan. 27, 1997. Ford-Livene and Alpher presented The Field's Edge and Three Songs of Transcendence at Church of the Wayfarer, Carmel, CA, Mar. 24, 1997.
