Annual American Composers Update
David Liptak
David Liptak, Professor of Composition,
chairs the Composition Department at the Eastman School
of Music, Rochester, NY.
Premieres
In 1997 soprano Cheryl Boyd and the
Boyd/Goluses Duo (flute/guitar) presented Songs for
Persephone in Rochester (Oct. 17) and in Atlanta
(Oct. 24). The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, under
Peter Bay, introduced Northern Light, Jan. 29
and 31, 1998.
Performances
In 1997 the New York New Music Ensemble
gave the first performances of a revised version of
Giovine Vagha, for flute, clarinet, violin, cello,
and marimba, in New York (Feb. 24) and in Los Angeles
(May 19). The same work was heard at the Eastman School
of Music, with an ensemble combining musicians from
Eastman and Freiburg, Germany, Oct. 22, 1997. The Indiana
University New Music Ensemble, led by David Dzubay,
presented Ancient Songs, for baritone and chamber
ensemble, in Bloomington, IN, Oct. 23, 1997. On Aug.
1, 1997, a Meadowmount School for Strings program included
George Taylor and Allison Gagnon in Duo, for
viola and piano.
