Annual American Composers Update
Donald Martino
In 1997 Donald Martino was Composer
in Residence at the Warebrook Contemporary Music Festival,
Irasburg, VT (Jul.); and at the Composers Conference
in Wellesley, MA (Aug.). In 1998, he will participate
in a round table discussion, "Publishing Contemporary
Music," at the Music Library Association Annual Meeting
(Feb. 14); and will be Composer in Residence at the
Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music (Mar.).
Premieres
Rolf Schulte and the New Hampshire Symphony,
under James Bolle, presented Concerto for Violin
and Orchestra, funded by a National Endowment commission,
at the Palace Theater, Manchester, NH, Nov. 14-15, 1997.
Performances
From the Other Side had many
U. S. performances, including one by The New Millennium
Ensemble at Alice Tully Hall, New York, NY, Apr. 14,
1997. On Aug. 7, 1997, a program at Wellesley (MA) College
included Jean Kopperud, clarinet, in Three Birthday
Cards, and Schulte, violin, in Fantasy Variations.
Pianist Eliza Garth presented Impromptu for Roger
and Piano Fantasy at the University of Maryland,
in College Park, June 1, 1997. Garth also will play
Twelve Preludes at ISCM, in New York, Mar. 17,
1998. On Feb. 27, 1998, the Fromm Players will perform
Notturno in Paine Hall, Boston.
