Annual American Composers Update
David Uber
David Uber, who lives in Tinmouth, VT
(Wallingford Post Office), is the founder of Rebu Music
Publishing Company, Inc. The College of New Jersey Board
of Trustees unanimously awarded him the title of Professor
Emeritus of Music. For the 38th consecutive year, he
received an ASCAP award. He has been commissioned to
arrange a march by Richard Stoll Armstrong for the Princeton
University Band; and to write a tuba and orchestra concerto
for Roger Behrend of George Mason University, for a
1998 premiere. Rebu Music Publications has released
his brass quartet arrangement of I've been Working
on the Railroad.
Premieres
On Apr. 26, 1997, Fairfax Overture
for Concert Band, commissioned by the City of Fairfax,
VA, was heard first, conducted by Robert Pouliot. Tides
of Destiny for Large Brass Choir received its first
performance from the Calvert Brass Consortium, conducted
by the composer, June 4, 1997, in Solomons, MD. Harry
Krueger led the premiere of Antiphonal for Rushmore,
for three antiphonal brass choirs, at Mt. Rushmore,
SD, July 1997.
Performances
At the Verso Il Millennio International
Conference in Riva del Garda, Italy, Jerry Young and
the conference tuba quartet played The Four Troubadours
and Uber's arrangement of Deep River, July 6,
1997. The Delta Brass performed Suite Militaire,
for brass quintet, in Cleveland, MS, Mar. 4, 1997. Sonata
for Euphonium and Piano was heard in Boone, NC,
with Sarita Faille, Feb. 23, 1997; and at Texas A &
M University, in Commerce, with Rickey Lowery.
