Annual American Composers Update

John H. Corina

John H. Corina, University of Georgia Professor Emeritus of Music, resides in Athens, GA, where he serves as Emmanuel Episcopal Church Organist/Choirmaster, as a free-lance oboist, and as a private oboe teacher. His anthem Jubilee, Jubilate won the Mesa, AZ First Presbyterian Church anthem competition for its 50th anniversary.

Premieres

On Feb. 9, 1997, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Junior Choir gave the first performance of Psalm 150, for treble choir, trumpet, and organ. Jubilee, Jubilate was sung first on Apr. 27, 1997, by the First Presbyterian Church Choirs, Mark Ramsey, director, in Mesa, AZ. The Parish Choir of St. Philip's Cathedral, under Craig Cansler, presented Behold Now, Bless the Lord, May 4, 1997, in Atlanta.

Performances

On Mar. 5, 1997, David Stoffel, bass-baritone, and the Emmanuel Episcopal Parish Choir sang The Way of the Cross in Athens, GA. A Southeastern Composers' League Forum held in Radford, VA included The Mystic Trumpeter, with Stoffel and the Radford University Chorus, Apr. 24, 1997. In 1997 the Renaissance Consort of Fort Worth (TX), directed by Kathy Fox Powell, performed Trinity of Blessed Light at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church (May 18); and The Mystic Trumpeter, with Stoffel, at the First Presbyterian Church (Oct. 19).
