Annual American Composers Update

H. Leslie Adams

H. Leslie Adams resides in Cleveland, OH. The H. Leslie Adams Music Archive, call no. ML410.A225/A3/1932, accessible on-line locally through CLEVENET and worldwide through FIRST SEARCH WORLD CATALOG (OCLC), opened at the Cleveland Public Library Main Building's Special Collections/Rare Books Division. At the premiere of his opera Blake, the composer attended the performances and participated in an opening-night symposium.

Premieres

On Oct. 24-26, 1997, the Municipal Opera Company of Baltimore, Inc. premiered Blake, an opera in four acts (libretto by Daniel Mayers) with a double cast featuring William Clark, Robert King, Sabrina Clark, and Kelli Young; and with Charlene Moore Cooper, conductor; Phadelma Ashley, stage director; and Brian Bagley, choreographer. Commissioned by the First Presbyterian Church of East Cleveland, OH for its 190th anniversary, Hymn to all Nations, for SATB choir and keyboard, was heard first there, Nov. 23, 1997.
