Annual American Composers Update

Martin Mailman

SAI National Arts Associate Martin Mailman is in his 32nd year as Regents Professor and Composer in Residence at the University of North Texas College of Music, in Denton. The Ben E. Keith Foundation has commissioned an orchestral work for the opening of the new University of North Texas concert hall in 1998. A Guest Composer at Drake University in April 1997, he is scheduled to serve in the same capacity during April 1998 at Baylor University and Sam Houston State University. He was awarded an ASCAP annual award.

Performances

The U. S. Navy Band presented Secular Litanies at the American Bandmasters Association meeting in San Diego, CA, with the composer conducting. The work was also played at the Drake University New Music Festival III, along with Bouquets, Concertino for Clarinet, For Precious Friends, and Concertino for Trumpet, with David Spencer, trumpet; Clarence Padilla, clarinet; and Robert Meunier, conductor.
