Annual American Composers Update
Robert Linn
Robert Linn is Professor Emeritus at the University of
Southern California, in Los Angeles. New 1997 works are
Suite for Oboe, Violin, Viola, and Cello, commissioned
by Stuart Horn, and
Piano Variations.
Premieres
Commissioned by the Baroque Music Festival of Corona del
Mar, CA for its 1997 season,
Cantata Jovialis (In
Praise of Love and Music) premiered June 11, 1997 at Sherman
Gardens, with Burton Karton, conductor; Linda Williams
Pearce, soprano; Alejandro Garri, countertenor; Mark Goodrich,
tenor; Christopher Lindbloom, baritone; a string quartet,
and harpsichord.
Performances
The 11th World Saxophone Congress, held in Valencia, Spain,
featured Kenneth Fischer in
Concerto for Soprano Saxophone
and Wind Ensemble, Sept. 30, 1997.
Divertimento
for Oboe, Two Horns, and String Quintet, commissioned
and premiered by the Southwest Chamber Music Society,
was presented Oct. 10-12, 1996 in Los Angeles and Pasadena,
with Horn soloing on the oboe. In addition, there have
been many other performances of Linn's published compositions.
