Annual American Composers Update
Robert Washburn
SAI Friend of the Arts Robert Washburn
serves on the faculty of the Crane School of Music,
SUNY College at Potsdam. In April 1997 he made a musical
odyssey in China. He has completed a portion of a music
textbook under contract with Harcourt-Brace. In July
1997 he was guest conductor at the Oxford Music Camp.
Premieres
Insalata Musicale (A Musical
Italian Salad) was heard first at the Baltimore
MENC
conference, April 1997.
Performances
The Crane Concert Band, led by Scott
LaVine, presented Connecticut Valley Festival Overture
at SUNY College at Potsdam, May 1997. Daniel Culver
conducted the Lake Placid Sinfonietta in Five Adirondack
Sketches, July 1997. Conducted by the composer,
the NYSSMA Summer Orchestra performed Six Works for
String Orchestra in Rochester, NY, August 1997.
The Chamber Orchestra of Northern New York, under Kenneth
Andrews, played Three Pieces for Orchestra, November
1997. The Suffolk All-County Band, Washburn conducting,
performed Kilimanjaro, Ode for Band in Northport,
NY, November 1997.
