Annual American Composers Update
Warren Benson
Warren Benson is Professor Emeritus
at the Eastman School of Music. Recent works include
Aurora Morning, an organ meditation; Tango
en la Tarde, for piano; and Daughter of the Stars,
for band, commissioned by an Alexandria, VA high school.
In addition the Eastman School of Music has commissioned
About Love, a set of songs for voice, guitar,
and viola, to celebrate the school's 75th anniversary.
Two CD's are in process with Albany
Records.
Premieres
On July 12, 1997, The Drums of Summer
( Theodore
Presser) premiered in Schladming, Austria, with
the Meadows Wind Ensemble and Chorale, conducted by
Jack Delaney. Scored for 18 winds, 16 voices, six percussion,
piano, celeste, and bass viol, the work was commissioned
by Southern Methodist University.
