Arthur Gottschalk works at the Rice University Shepherd
School of Music, in Houston, TX. Recent compositions are
Shall We Gather, for alto saxophone and tape;

(text by Jack Kerouac), a song cycle for high voice, piano,
and bass viol.
Premieres
On Apr. 6, 1999, the Shepherd Symphony Orchestra, under
Larry Rachleff, will present
Empire of the Sun
in Houston.
Performances
Leyenda, for symphonic wind ensemble, trombone
choir, and tape, received a performance from the Eastman
Wind Ensemble, Donald Hunsberger conducting, Dec. 6, 1998
in Rochester, NY. Violinist Kenneth Goldsmith soloed with
the Houston Youth Symphony, under Michael Webster, in
Blue Fantasy, Nov. 8 and 15, 1998. At a Museum
of Fine Arts program, Reynaldo Ochoa played
Into the
Maelstrom, for trumpet and tape, Sept. 17 and 23,
1998 in Houston.
