Donald Martino
In 1998, Donald Martino was Master Composer at the Ernest
Bloch Music Festival, in Newport, OR (July 19-26); and
BMI Composer-in-Residence at Vanderbilt University. (Mar.).
Premieres
In 1998, violist Samuel Rhodes and pianist Thomas Sauer
introduced
Three Sad Songs at the Library of Congress
(Apr. 16-17), followed by a performance at the New York
Viola Society, in New York City's London Gallery (May
3). Martino soloed in the first performance of
Variazioni
Sopra un Soggetto Cavato, for solo clarinet, Feb.
5, 1998.
Performances
In 1998, the New York New Music Ensemble played
Notturno,
for clarinet, violin, and piano, and
Twelve Preludes,
for piano, at Merkin Hall, New York, NY (Oct. 3), and
on their California tour (Nov. 1-6).
