Annual American Composers Update
David Uber
David Uber makes his home in Tinmouth,
VT. He served as adjudicator at the Dartmouth College
concerto auditions, in Hanover, NH (Apr. 21, 1998) and
at Castleton (VT) State College, and has been elected
to the Advisory Board of the International Trombone
Association (ITA) for 1998-2002. For the 40th consecutive
year, he has received an ASCAP award. He is listed in
the 1998-99
Who's Who in Entertainment and in
Stern's
Performing Arts Directory. Recent commissions
include
A Dartmouth Medley, for the Dartmouth
College symphonic and marching band, Max Culpepper,
director (fall 1998);
Commemoration Overture for
the Year 2000, from the Salem County Brass Society
for its 25th anniversary; and a work for three antiphonal
brass choirs, from Sioux Empire Brass.

Music has published his arrangement of
I've Been
Working on the Railroad for brass quartet.
Premieres
In honor of Mount Rushmore, the Sioux
Empire Brass premiered the large-scale antiphonal work
Antiphonal for Rushmore in May 1998.
Performances
Dr. William Silvester conducted the
Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Symphony No. 3, June
20, 1998 at the College of New Jersey. On Apr. 28, 1998,
William Keck soloed in Three Cameos for Solo Tuba
and Saxophone Quartet at the University of Vermont.
An Indianhead Arts Center program featured Four Sketches
for Solo Horn and Piano, with Anna Skrupky, July
16, 1998 in Shell Lake, WI. The Marjorie Callaghan Horn
Ensemble played Suite for Four Horns in Patterson,
NY, June 7, 1998. Recently, there have been many performances
in Japan, Austria, Belgium, Canada, The Czech Republic,
Denmark, Norway, Finland, France, Hong Kong, and Switzerland.
