Annual American Composers Update
Marilyn J. Ziffrin
Marilyn J. Ziffrin lives and works at
home in a small New Hampshire village. Her song cycle
For Love of Cynthia was awarded Honorable Mention
in the MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year
competition. In the Bulletin of the Sonneck Society
for American Music (Spring 1998), Malinda B. Schantz
wrote an article about Ziffrin's music. On June 15,
1998, a program of her music aired over WORT-FM, Madison,
WI.
Premieres
Mark-Andrew Cleveland, baritone, and
Lisa Ann Cleveland, accordion, presented the first three
songs of For Love of Cynthia at the Quad State
MTNA Convention, held Oct. 25, 1997 at the University
of Southern Maine, in Gorham, and then premiered the
complete work Apr. 15, 1998 at St. Anselm's College,
Manchester, NH, followed by a performance Apr. 19, 1998
at St. Paul's School, in Concord, NH. Soprano Carol
Wilson, violist Laurance Fader, and pianist Bernard
Rose introduced Two Songs, commissioned by the
North Country Chamber Players to celebrate their 20th
anniversary and the 20th anniversary of the Robert Frost
House, July 5, 1998 at The Frost Place, in Franconia,
NH.
Performances
On Nov. 8, 1997, Priscilla Fullerton
played Suite for Piano at Slippery Rock University
of Pennsylvania. David Kossoff, oboe, performed Obosolo,
Apr. 26, 1998 at the National Association of Composers
USA East-coast chapter's spring concert, at Christ and
St. Stephen's Church, New York, NY. A San Francisco
Guitar Society program, May 1, 1998, included Marc Teicholz
in Rhapsody for Guitar.
